Product Description
Micardis plus is a combination of two active substances, telmisartan and hydrochlorothiazide, in one tablet. Both active substances are used to control high blood pressure .
Telmisartan belongs to a group of blood pressure medicines called angiotensin II inhibitors.
Angiotensin II is a substance produced in the body that causes blood vessels to constrict and thus blood pressure to rise.
Telmisartan works by inhibiting the effect of angiotensin II so that blood vessels dilate and blood pressure drops.
Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a group of medicines called thiazide diuretics, which increase the excretion of urine and cause blood pressure to decrease.
If high blood pressure is not treated, it can damage the blood vessels in several organs, which can sometimes lead to a heart attack , heart or kidney failure, stroke or blindness.
Micardis plus is used to treat high blood pressure ( hypertension ) in adults who do not achieve adequate blood pressure control with telmisartan alone.
